Jean, Lady Hamilton Jean, Lady Hamilton is the biography of the wife of General Sir Ian Hamilton who led the failed attack at Gallipoli during the First World War.

Jean was the daughter of Sir John and Margaret, Lady Muir of Deanston House, Doune, Perthshire.  Jean met Major Ian Hamilton whilst on holiday in India and they were married there.  Jean's father, Sir John Muir, had built up a vast fortune from tea plantations and a jute industry.  Jean used her share of the fortune to finance her husband's career in the army.  She worked tirelessly for the soldiers both at home and in packing food parcels to send to the hospital ships during the Dardanelles campaign.

"A Soldiers Wife" was book of the week in the Spectator in 2001, and was reviewed by Dr Alan Sked.
